Hello Blues fans, this week I have another surprise for you, this was a big time deep dive treasure hunt for me, I had never heard of this guy 3 days ago, now I want to know why it took so long for him to appear on my radar. Now you may ask, “Dave how did you come about this new find?”, well let me tell you. Thursday I was listening to an interview with my favorite British bluesman, yes it’s Schofield how did you guess? But I digress, anyway one of the callers asked Matt if he had ever heard of this person, Matt said yes that he had played with him several times. Well by golly out comes my pen to scratch down the name of Aynsley Lister, a couple of quick searches and we are hot on the trail of Aynsley Lister’s 2006 release of “Everything I Need”. So here we go, right out of the box we have a hard driving burner with the title track “Everything I Need”. Tone you ask? Why yes he’s got great tone, clear vocals with a slight bit of grit and a great set of tunes. Highlights include, “Soundman”, “As The Crow Flies”, a flippin smoker of a slow blues in “Need Her So Bad”. We end it with a very nice version of Jimi Hendrix “Little Wing”. Now on the album it says Little Wing has an eleven minute run time, but it’s over at 3:50, then it just goes dead air. Odd thought I, so if you fast forward to the 5:44 mark you get an unlisted treat. Starts out with some nice Delta slide guitar then careens into a full bore acoustic blues pickers fest. Really good stuff from Mr Aynsley.
