The Allman Brothers Band self-titled debut The Allman Brothers Band Album Review 07-31-2022

There was a meme a couple of weeks ago featuring Charlie Brown sitting on the curb, musing to himself “I need to listen to some early Allman Brothers”. Well by golly, I took the esteemed Mr Brown’s advice and fired up The Allman Bros, “The Allman Brothers Band” their debut album released in 1969. Wow! You gotta keep telling yourself, “this is their first album”. This thing plays like a greatest hits collection. There’s only 7 songs on this release, and four of them are “It’s Not My Cross To Bear”, “Trouble No More”, “Dreams” and “Whipping Post”, I mean come on, and there’s no slackers in the other 3 tunes. You will NOT be hitting the >> button on this LP. Of course, the tone question comes into play on every review, but hey this is Duane Allman and Dickie Betts, no worries about tone here, plus Gregg on vocals, please. Yes folks, this another to, as I like to say, listen again for the first time.
