And away we go on another Blues album of the week! Many times I will strive, seek, search and fight thru much wailing and gnashing of teeth to find an album or artist that perhaps you were either unaware or hadn’t heard in a while. So for the past few days worth of listening on my humble music source, i.e. my phone, I managed to get caught up in one of our chaps from across the pond. For his second entry in the album list, I bring you Rory Gallagher “Live in Europe”, released in 1972 a mere 7 songs, but oh what a glorious listen it is. Let’s crank this bad boy up right outta the gates with Junior Well’s “Messin’ With The Kid” and just when you thought you were going to make it out alive, he finishes off with “BullFrog Blues”. Rory will let you breathe a bit with the sow’s ear sandwich and moon pie Delta flavorings of “I Could’ve Had Religion”, which features some excellent slide work. He’ll show off his ample acoustic abilities with “Pistol Slapper Blues”. This albums’ got all the ups and downs of a classic blues album, great vocals, the tone he squeezes out of his stratocaster is both raunchy and grand. Good stuff all around, and for heaven’s sake please make sure you got plenty of open highway when “Bullfrog Blues” comes on.
