Can you say it’s Blues Album of the Week time? Well it is, so grab your cheap bourbon, some stale Winston’s and sit back as we bring this weeks offering. This week I give you Big Wolf Band, from that stronghold of the blues Birmingham, England. “A Rebel’s Story” is the album, released in 2017, fronted by guitarist / vocals Jonathan Earp, (pretty sure there’s no relation to the boys from the OK Corral). This is some good blues, traces of Peter Green, a little Matt Schofield groove, mix in a bit of John Mayal, with just a slight taste of BB, and you got a winner. Mr Earp provides great vocals, full of emotion, just hint of gravel. Now the important part, TONE!, yes that’s right, we have great tone! Think Gary Moore and you’ve got the idea. “A Rebel’s Story” while mostly an upbeat record, it does slow it down a might, with “Darkest of My Days”, “Love Isn’t Free”. The album starts off with a bang in “Heavens Got The Blues”, highlights include “Hot Blooded Woman”, “Long Time Mary”, “Been Here Too Long”. We close out this album with the glorious, emotional, slow blues of “If I Ever Loved Another Woman”. Don’t miss these guys! Great stuff all around.
