Hey there Blues fans, it’s the latest incarnation of Blues Album of the Week! This week I take great pleasure in bringing you one Christone “Kingfish” Ingram, Kingfish, released in 2019. Christone is a young man, born in 1999, but as you will see he is playing well beyond his age. I have been digging on this album for about a week now. Christone’s style seems a little old school to me, not a lot of speedy flash, but extremely fluid and oh so tasteful. Shades of the 3 Kings with a little Dickey Betts flow thru the album. Tone? Did I mention tone? Wow the Kingfish has it in spades! Smooth semi-hollow stylings with just a hint of distortion, to meaty beaty solid body crunch without being overly distorted, each note ringing smooth and clear. This is another one of those glorious pieces of work that is all highlights, not a clunker in the bunch. Here’s some notables, the opener “Outside of this Town”, “Fresh Out”, the haunting “Been Here Before”. Rich full voice vocals, with just a hint of bluesy dirt. This is another must listen. Enjoy!
