In Sessions: Stevie Ray Vaughn and Albert King Album Review 11/7/21

Ok Blues fans, we got an interesting one this week. “In Sessions w/ Srv and Albert King”, you may or may not remember, the late 80’s or early 90’s, this was a PBS broadcast. It was just Stevie and Albert on screen, the band was off-camera. One of the fascinating things about this album / show was the conversational interludes between the two masters. Their interaction is fun and insightful, Albert’s facial reactions when Stevie plays some obvious A. King licks are priceless. One piece of trivia so to speak, I can’t figure out whats going on with Albert’s guitar it almost sounds like he has a wah pedal turned on continuously, you listen and see what you think. Highlights ? Wow! Tough to pick. The opener “Call it Stormy Monday” is glorious, SRV’s “Pride and Joy” is raw and gritty. “Blues at Sunrise” is probably the best part of the album, note I said “probably”. Really good stuff from two masters of the trade. Its a different kind of album I think you will dig.
