Well here we are again, it’s Blues Album of the Week time! This week we have the one and only Matt Schofield, Far As I Can See. Released in 2014, 11 songs. I make no bones that Matt is my favorite blues guitarist, so after 20 or so album reviews I thought I could do a second album from Mr Schofield. No need to comment on Matt’s chops, his tone, or his tasteful playing, we’ll get right to it. The opener “From Far Away”, “Clean Break”, “Tell Me Some Lies” are classic Schofield style tunes. You also get Matt’s verison of Albert King’s classic “Breaking Up Somebody’s Home”, without a doubt one of my all-time favorite blue’s songs. I really like the reggae, New Orleans inspired “Yellow Moon”. The surprise tune is “Red Dragon”, Matt goes out on a limb here, a bit of a departure from his usual style. Now get out there and check out Matt Schofield. You will certainly dig it. As another note, please join me at The Guitar Sanctuary Oct 15 for the live Matt Schofield show, I assure you it will be great.
