Yes, it’s time for the Blues album of the week. This week we definitely have a treat for your listening ears. I discovered this guy a couple years back, and the sheer talent this dude generates is nothing short of absolute pandemonium. I give you Andy Wood’s Junktown. Released in Jan 2019, this is Andy’s third solo album. While Junktown is a little off the traditional blues path, this gem has hints of bluegrass, country, rock metal, fusion. Plus, I really wanted to introduce a highly talented guitarist to you all. Andy has it all, impeccable tone, phenomenal chops, catchy (not kitschy) tunes that want to tell a story not just eradicate you with mindless speed. From the opening notes of the first tune, “Junktown”, you know you are in for a wild ride. Let’s jump into some highlights; “Beyond the Reef” shows off some of Andy’s mandolin chops. The dexterity and flatpicking skills shown on “Smoke Wagon”, and the full tilt boogie onslaught of “Flooded Mine”. Take note of this name, Andy Wood, you will be hearing more from him.
