Albert Cummings Live at the ’62 Center Album Review 01-16-2022

Well it’s Blues Album of the Week time again. We’ve got a good one for you this week. I proudly present Albert Cummings: Live at the ‘62 Center, released in December 2017. Albert’s tasty licks, glorious chops, wonderful tone take you on a most satisfying ride down the road. Speaking of tone, I like that Albert is another guitar player that doesn’t mind his stratocaster sounding like a stratocaster. Seems way to often strat players want their guitar to have this generic humbucker sound, now don’t get me wrong, most of my guitars are outfitted with humbuckers, I like the sound, tone. However, if you are playing a “strat” or “tele”, then by all means let its true tone sound out. Can I get an Amen?

Meanwhile, back to the action, let’s fire this puppy off with “500 Miles”, good stuff, that doesn’t give away all the fun you’re getting ready to enjoy. The first 5 tunes make you want to break a little glass, cross-step the snuffed out cigarettes on the floor, and belly up to the bar for something brown or golden! Next let’s ease it down a bit for some slow blues with nice crunch and let Mr Cummings show off his exquisite chops. All of the tunes would make my highlight list. I definitely like the SRV flavored stylings of “Up Your Sleeve”, of course. “Moving Up” gets your blood flowing, we finish it off with “Glass House”, with the addition of “Midnight Rider” mixed in. What a great ride.
