This week’s Blues Album of the week is none other than the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, released in 1965. As a guitarist, I have been familiar with the Butterfield Blues Band for decades, but I never stuck more than a small toe into its waters. Well that was a mistake, I’ve had Mr Paul on my playlist for about a year now and I am liking it more each time I listen. This debut version of the band includes both Mike Bloomfield and Elvin Bishop as your duel guitar players. Yes, that Elvin Bishop, who was and is a blues guitarist long before the beating of “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” came out. While I was never into Mr Bloomfield as a solo artist, I really dig him with Paul Butterfield. How bout some highlights. “Born in Chicago”, “Blues with a Feeling”, “Our Love is Drifting”, I really enjoy the covers of “I got my Mojo Working” and “Look Over Yonders Wall”. This is good, up-beat Chicago style blues, really nice for the vehicle. Give Paul Butterfield a listen.
