This week’s Blues Album of the week is Chris Cain: Chris Cain. Released in 2017 on his own label, this is rich, jazz-infused blues in a big band setting, very reminiscent of BB King, Bobby Blue Bland. Some highlights: Meanest Woman in Town; upbeat, jump blues, guitar tone and style very much in the BB King vein. Tell Tale Signs; grab a bourbon, cigarette, sit down at the bar and just drift away. Lovely tone and phrasing. And do not miss that piano, glorious. Evil Minded Woman; hard-core, juke joint blues, in the Howlin Wolf tradition. Kidney Stew; jazzy, upbeat, infectious swing groove Give Chris Cain a listen, good stuff for the ears, great for roadtrips. Enjoy.
