This week we bring you the brilliantly talented Robben Ford, the album Live at Rockpalast, recorded in 1998 and 2007. This recording consists of mostly upbeat tunes in a bluesy jazzy style. A lot of good stuff here. The opener “How Deep in the Blues (Do You Want to Go)” gets things started and continues the ride until the final echos of “The Brother”. A study of Robben Ford is to take a masterclass in guitar, his use of chords and multiple chord voicings is legendary. Robben’s single line solos are a mix of jazz and classic blues stylings , with a few octaves thrown in to keep you on your toes. A bunch of highlights on this one, but I will just include a few. The previously mentioned “How Deep in the Blues”, the bright “Indianola”, Freddie King tribute “Cannonball Shuffle”, melancholy yet lovely “Peace on My Mind”. Two great sets from an excellent musician.
