This week I bring you David Grissom, Trio Live 2020, recorded at the Saxon Pub in Austin, Texas. David has toured / recorded with a number of artists from Joe Ely, John Mellencamp, the Dixie Chicks, Buddy Guy to the Allman Bros, Robben Ford and Ringo Starr. David’s impressive chops are in play from the blistering opener “Lucy G” to the finale “Boots like to Boogie”. This album is mostly instrumental, which I really dig. Numerous highlights on this one: the aforementioned Lucy G An original version of Albert King’s Crosscut Saw, unlike any version of this song I have heard before, this may be the best. Never came Easy to Me, driving, with a subtle restraint. Biting tone, great phrasing. Both Sqwawk and Boots Likes to Boogie have that, out of the way roadhouse you stumbled into and were blown away by the band, feel. Good fun. Eight tunes make for a great album. Check out David Grissom you will enjoy him.
